Thanks for all the Paul deLay news, sad as it is, Charles.

Funny, just a few weeks back, I was at Tower records; they were going out of business, and remaining stock was 70% off.
I picked up Paul's "The Other One" because I remembered enjoying him at the White Eagle (I think) near the old Storefront Theater.
I'm playing it now.

Here's to Paul.

The White Eagle was my favorite spot to see Paul, what with its intimacy and brick. He outgrew the space, unfortunately, as he became so popular and needed larger clubs. In later years, I most enjoyed him apart from his band when he'd do duos with a piano player or trios adding a bass, often in small piano bar settings. Just to keep busy on his off days, I guess. I'd forgotten what a baseball fan he was.

Yesterday I asked my class if anyone knew who Paul deLay was. No one did.

I discovered that Paul had passed while doing research for a radio program I'll be doing July 1. I'm only familiar with his Nice N Strong CD. But what a CD!
My last band covered Fourteen Dollars in the Bank. We always got a great reception to the tune.
Too Old To Scold now is sadly ironic. Please pass on my deepest sympathies to Paul's family and friends. He was obviously a man overflowing with love and talent.

I only learned today that Mr. DeLay had passed away. That saddens me very much. "Why Can't You Love Me," is one of my favorite songs of all time. I remember seeing the Paul DeLay Band play at a town festival in McMinnville, Oregon, a few years back, and telling him that I'd found that song on a compilation CD that he was apparently unaware of. I always meant to find out and tell him, but he passed away before I could. The CD was "Essential Blues Harmonica Disc 1," and the word "essential" is very descriptive.

Thank you, Mr. DeLay, for your great music.
