Another good man gone

Also passing last week was my favorite DJ, "Dr. Jazz," I learned this morning. From the KMHD website:

Bill, "Dr. Jazz" Fetsch held down the Saturday and Sunday morning Trad Jazz slots for the last decade on KMHD and was a musician and band leader of Dr. Jazz and the Interns in his spare time. Bill was a generous, warm human being who spent many hours each week working on his show both at home and at the KMHD studios. He had a wicked sense of humor and was not above quoting Burma Shave signs and pumping out the puns while telling stories of his youth, his acquaintances, and his working life.

Bill's end came all too quickly after being diagnosed with lung cancer which had spread throughout his system. He worked right up to the end putting out radio programs for his legions of fans.

KMHD will do a program special on Dr. Jazz on March 31st in the morning to celebrate his life and contributions to the station and the music he loved.

The funeral for Bill will be on Wednesday, March 14th at 12:00 Noon at the Madeleine Parish Church on the northeast corner of NE 24th Avenue and NE Siskiyou Street, Portland, Oregon.

I loved listening to this guy, who sounded like he was talking to you from across the breakfast table. I usually caught at least some of one of his weekend shows and often some of both. He was my cruising music on early weekend errands. He'll be greatly missed.
