Mathew Staver, dean of Liberty University School of Law and a champion of the far right's "Family Values" mantra, said regarding Palin's unmarried pregnant teen daughter: "We're all sinners."
Very interesting response! Does this suggest a subtle shift of tactics?
To far right conservatives, is it suddenly cool, suddenly good credentials, to flaunt your "sinning"? Is this a new conservative argument for teenage screwing out of wedlock? I mean, we know abstinence doesn't work anyway because we're all sinners. So what the hell, let's sin. (And since we're all sinners and are going to screw anyway, hmm, maybe we should learn about birth control! But wait. Then we wouldn't be able to flaunt our sinning with visible physical evidence. What good is sinning if we have nothing to show for it?)
Sinclair Lewis put the same argument above in the voice of Elmer Gantry. It was hilarious then, and it's hilarious now.
What a world.
