Doc loves my labs taken yesterday and was overjoyed my cholesterol is down 15 pts from last year. This really cracks me up. Here's why.
I've always been in the upper range of "allowable" cholesterol. Last year I'd climbed to the very edge of the range, so doc told me any higher and it's medication time, then gave me the usual rap about diet and exercise.
Well, at home I came to an opposite decision. I'm in my gravy years. The point is to enjoy them, not do something to prepare for the future -- to enjoy them NOW. It happens that I enjoy breakfast one hell of a lot. There's not too much I still enjoy like I used to but breakfast certainly is one of them. Chicken-fried steak, or sausage and eggs, or scrapple, or grits, hotcakes, pork chops, you name it, a big country breakfast suits me just fine. Instead of cutting off such a pleasure in the interest of future health, hell with it, I wasn't going to watch what I eat at breakfast any more, not at all, I was going to become a breakfast hedonist and eat whatever the hell I want, when I want. If I die one or even five years sooner, so be it. Let my cholesterol climb the mountain top. I'm not only not giving up country breakfasts, I'm eating them more often!
So this is what I've done for the past year, and my cholesterol is lower. Ain't medicine wonderful?
