The Guthrie tribute

A good afternoon of paying tribute to Woody Guthrie by the Kents Neighborhood Association, the neighborhood where Guthrie lived briefly in May, 1941 (on SE 92nd near Woodstock), when he wrote 26 songs in a month supporting the dam development of the Columbia River. A small crowd, about 100, and 3 musical groups, only one of which was gray. Yes, it was nice to see young folks singing Woody! I did my bit and learned something that made me feel good. Bill Murlin, who uncovered Guthrie's "Columbia collection" when he was working for the BPA, told me that I had inspired him to look for Guthrie material after he saw my "standing room only" show at Powell's Bookstore in 1979 or 80. A nice thing for him to say, a nice thing to learn. Passing the baton and all that, which we also talked about, listening to the "young folks" sing Guthrie on stage. Keep it rolling.
