Doctors v. patients

Go in for my annual checkup today and wonder if this is the one at which the doc and I bump heads. It's inevitable that we do. Her concern for my quantity of life and my concern for quality of life are on a collision course. It's just a matter of when we crash. Some health problem will arise, and she's going to prescribe something that will add x time to my life, but I'm going to say no thanks, I'm not going to do that. Of course, I am extremely biased because I have outlived all my closest male friends and without exception all of them had miserable, horrible last months because their so-called cure was far worse than their disease. Thanks but not thanks, to quote the good governor of Alaska (however, I'm not lying). So is this the year? I'll find out this afternoon.
