"One of us"

Here's a terrific idea. If we want our politicians to be "one of us," why not have a lottery instead of elections? Every four years we'd have a drawing: you get to be President, you a senator, you in the House of Representatives, and so on. We'd have a clean slate every 4 years, there'd be no professional politicians, no political parties, no mudslinging in non-existent elections. It'd be like jury duty. I'm surprised the Republicans loving Palin because she's "just one of us" haven't thought of this. (Of course, some folks are more "us" than others. A few folks, many of them, ahem, scientists, actually believe human behavior contributes to global warming. A few prefer that books are not banned. A few don't want to drill for oil in protected wilderness areas. A few, including the, ahem, straight, believe being gay is just fine with them.)
