A big thumbs up for this German film about star-crossed lovers separated by the Berlin Wall, one escaping to the West in 1961 but the guy not making it. The movie follows their different lives in East and West Germany, their love, their facing the reality of separation -- and their final reunion when the wall comes down. A real dramatic treatment without Hollywood exaggeration or a pat happy ending. A possible ending -- ambiguous, complex. A fine film.
