What with all the marching bands in the Rose Parade and all the games today, I'm really into college fight songs. Here are mp3s of some of my favorites:
*As a Navy brat, I remember how exciting it was to hear "Anchors Aweigh" while meeting Dad's ship coming in after months at sea, standing in the crowd of Navy families on the dock at San Diego or Long Beach ... still makes me breathless. When wars become unpopular, military families sometimes get a bad rap (from neglect or dismisal if nothing else). They sacrifice much and deserve profound gratitude.
**One of the nicest stories about Gerald Ford I heard after his death was how he had bands play this, the Michigan fight song, rather than "Hail to the Chief" when he appeared as President.
***This was the tune taken for my Wilson Jr High fight song, to which we used to sing, "Rah rah for old Wilson High, You bring the whiskey I'll bring the rye...", which at 10 sounded pretty cute.
