What a wonderful book!
Tonight I started
Sister Bernadette's Barking Dog: The Quirky History and Lost Art of Diagramming Sentences by Kitty Burns Florey -- and I haven't had so much fun reading in a long time. I loved diagramming sentences as a kid in school, routinely done in the late 40s and 50s, and this book captures the joy of this lost art. You wouldn't hear so many grammatical mistakes such as "the check was written to Joan and I" if folks knew how to diagram sentences today. Witty, historic, nostalgic -- a wonderful read early on, and I trust it will remain so.
