Anyone who's been online for a while must marvel at the cleverness of spammers in their attempts to get a message to you. Two recent strategies are: enticing subject lines, such as (received today) A Matter of Epistemology. Made me curious, and it also got by my spam filter. But an even more sophisticated strategy in technical terms (which I don't really understand) is to have an image-ad superimposed over text in an email message ... that is, the mail opens to text, often reading like randomly selected paragraphs from a random book, but then loading over the text is an image with the ad content. This, too, usually gets by my spam filter.
Ah, these clever spammers. They must get paid by the emails opened because all they do is piss me off with these tactics if I actually bite.
