A thoughtful article

Going to check out this guy's book.

The American Scholar is the publication of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. I used to wear my pin on a baseball cap until it got stolen many years ago. I should get another. I forget the secret handshake. There was a secret handshake, wasn't there?
If I am facetious, it's because I entered the Society through such a bizarre set of circumstances involving my Greek teacher at UCLA, a story I've told here before.

"How did it happen that literary works that not long ago seemed provincial, even secondrate, came to be regarded as newly vital and compelling?"
