Misleading reporting

The story below is some of the worst reporting I've seen in ages. What the attorney general said was:
  • The students were Innocent of all charges.
  • There was no credible evidence that an assault even occurred at the party.
  • The rush to judgment by a "rogue prosecutor" caused this miscarriage of justice.

Ironically enough, CNN's own commentators understand the importance of the above. The station's legal reporter calls the attorney general's statements hugely significant and something never heard in his long reporting career. What was expected was a statement like the clip below, that the case was dropped because of lack of sufficient evidence. Far more significant statements were made. Shame on the reporter who wrote this misleading story!

RALEIGH, North Carolina (CNN) -- All charges have been dropped in the sexual assault case against three former Duke University lacrosse players, North Carolina's attorney general announced Wednesday.

Attorney General Roy Cooper said there was insufficient evidence to pursue criminal charges against any of the players.
