Inspiring day
Read the work of three of my advanced students today and all have moments of professional screenwriting, which is satisfying to see. Two have good completed drafts of a feature, one quite close, one needing more work on the story structure. The other is a short, very suspenseful so far. I buy into the observation by Richard Toscan: "American movies are about what happens next." The one needing story work could become an art film with less work but I don't believe that's the audience the writer is after. The other draft is all there except for the ending. Really a good day, reading such good student work. Makes me think I may be doing something right.
