Banned play update

Eastern Oregon Univ. won't host it. Shame on them!

You had to be there. Three hours of non-stop fun. Very interesting--right up to the 4-3 decision. Made me think I may be a little too detached at times, Joan d'Arc enjoying both sides of the arguments deciding whether she should be barbecued right up to the moment the old farts flick their bic's. The board meeting was a fascinating lesson in local politics, and they say all politics is local. Perhaps the most frightening part was the fuzzy and illogical thinking of the seniormost and retired school personnel, i.e., if you act like you have a drink in your hand, then you have a drink in your hand and are in violation of the school code. If you are debunking sexism, you are being sexist. I guess if you cross the stage in an uninsured cardboard car, they can give you a ticket. What part of acting don't these adults understand? And nobody ever expects the Spanish Inquisition.

Sorry about all the anon and inane comments. Just wandered over here checking news on the play.

Great comment, thanks.

For the historical roots of such "literal" thinking, check out LOVE'S BODY by Norman O. Brown.

Thanks, I will check out Brown. One of the most frustrating things about that un-meeting of minds was the fact that those in charge at the highest levels and surely needing to know better seemed to make such illogical "literal" leaps. I'll give it up to 80-year-old ladies who just want to come see their grandchildren acting in something nice without being uncomfortable, but those in charge of the asylum ought to be a little more sophisticated and organized in their evaluations. It is difficult and they may feel like they have seen one too many of Solomon's babies, but that is their leadership role. I think the whispering campaign passing false information about the play's contents around the community tells us who the false mother is in this case.
