Rebels With A Cause

A documentary by Helen Garvy. Here is cogent, gripping history of the rise and fall of SDS (Students for a Democratic Society) on the campuses of America, from the civil rights movement to the Vietnam War, to splintering events like the women's movement and later the aggressive weathermen, it's all here in an oral history by various participants. Captures the times and fairly evaluates the successes and failures. Highly recommended.

Rebels With A Cause.

I've taught college students in the 60s, 70s, 90s and 20s, and students of the late 60s and early 70s stand out dramatically for their curiosity, social and political activism, strong principles, dedication and extraordinary energy. I miss them. I've been waiting for over a quarter century for their children to appear with comparable energy for more than future jobs and careers. I don't even hear political or social arguments on campus any more. The notion of a teach-in about anything is unthinkable.

Each term in my screenwriting class, from three to half-a-dozen students work on a script about zombies. Makes me wonder ha ha.
