After about 3 hours of work, I think I have the first minute of my chamber opera. In this sample, we open with an old man learning from his doctor that he has cancer -- and he requests physician-assisted suicide, figuring he's had a great life, why wait around for it to get worse. But the doctor is horrified since there's treatment, chemo, available and recovery chances are good. The old man insists it should be his decision.
In the sample, everything but piano is a VOICE. The old man opens. Then the doctor comes in at a faster tempo, and finally they sing a layered duet.
