Everybody has a bad day

Upton Sinclair, author of "The Jungle"
Reading Chris Hedges' recent book on illiteracy and found this: "It was Sinclair Lewis who took us into the stockyards and shantytowns of Chicago in The Jungle."

Ah, me! How many editorial readers let this get by? Depressing.

God, I've done that, more than once. It's depressing and embarrassing, and the easiest sort of thing to slip through the editing process because to the quickly scanning eye it seems plausible. The author knew better, of course!

Same here. Poor CH, to do it in a book on literacy ha ha!
