A very special night

First Wednesday was quite wonderful tonight. Sometimes you get lucky and put together the right talents in the right order and some kind of magic happens. That was the case tonight, starting with a solid reading by Cecelia Hagen of Eugene, followed by Kate Mann singing her original songs. Kate was so excited to be performing to a captive audience out of her usual noisy smokey bar environment that she outdid herself. Then the evening ended with Matt Love introducing a volume of Oregon prison writing and a former prisoner, Smoky Epley, who read and talked about his life, getting a standing ovation from the full house. A great night to pass the podium to the new series director, Julie Mae Madsen, who has already done things to help the series. We've really got something going here.

The secret to being a good literary editor is selecting a great staff.
