A little knowledge is a dangerous thing

34 measures into Final Exit, a music drama (a term I am preferring over chamber opera) ... I consider this draft rather like "a musical sketch" to get down my basic dramatic, story and musical ideas. Then we'll see what is salvageable later.

The story situation is generic: a dying father, with mother, son and daughter gathered around his bedside for the end. At rise here, mother and daughter are in the waiting room ... and son is late, probably in a bar drowning his sorrows.

Here is an mp3 of the music ... the lyrics below match the melody line (organ sound).
Final Exit mp3.

MOTHER
Soon... soon...
He will walk in-to the room
with his wide and fool-ish grin
and I'll have to for-give him
a-gain.

DAUGHTER
And here you go a-gain, play-ing his game. .
We both know he's in a bar.

MOTHER
(Please don't.)

DAUGHTER
We both know if he shows up
he'll be quite drunk.

MOTHER
Why must you al-ways
assume that the worst that can
hap-pen is what comes
to pass?

DAUGHTER
Just stop!
Moth-er listen
I don't want to ar-gue with you.
