Had the luxury of hanging out with my wife for a couple hours this afternoon.
First, had a good morning and even wrote the first two measures of my first (music drama / chamber opera), called Final Exit. No small accomplishment! I'm going for a minimalist treatment on my end, which later a collaborative composer can jazz up. I'm just striving for the musical feel.
Piano lessons are especially fun now because we're playing more interesting and challenging songs. I plan to do a ton of reading in music this summer, primarily a fat history of the libretto I bought some time ago but also some theory books, a jump start on my fall theory class.
I still haven't returned to either writing project! All my thoughts have compressed and exploded into melodies. But I need to get back and finish those projects. Yes, yes.
Anyway, after piano lesson, we had a long leisurely lunch at Corbett Fish House (catfish!) and then did a bit of wandering before coming home. Looked at some new town houses going up. My wife guessed they'd go for $385,000. She was off a mile. $640,000! Time marches on.
We stopped by John's Water Tower, once a charming interior mall but now mostly offices and businesses, not much to do or look at. Time marches on.
Now she's off on errands and I'm about to do some reading. A lot of student work to attend to this weekend. I'll start tomorrow. I'll try to force myself to write some prose before composing some music, too.
