R.I.P.: Bill Morrissey

"Bill Morrissey passed away on July 23, 2011, in his room at a hotel in Georgia. He was staying there on his way home after several gigs. Bill's fans and the folk music community are deeply saddened by his loss."

Thirty Years
Two in the morning and the bus is late
Gotta get some sleep, got a gig to make
It's 14 hours to the next town
But I've got a bottle in my bag
And I learned to sleep while sitting down

The depot's closed and the lights are low
Used to take a plane when I had to go
Used to have a name, now it's just a show
And I thought they were always gonna stick around

Well thirty years goin' down by degrees
Thirty years of thank you and please
'Til all you get is the smoker's cough and the alcohol disease
Little children sing this song

She said she'd meet me but she never showed
And now there's nothing but me and another stretch of road
It's true nothing comes free and you pay for all your crimes
Once you give your heart away one too many times.

Well thirty years goin' down by degrees
Thirty years of thank you and please
'Til all you get is the smoker's cough and the alcohol disease
Little children sing this song

You gotta keep moving so you don't fall down
You gotta sing your song, you gotta buy the round
It all starts as just a dream of traveling and shows
'Til you get out on the road and find all the exits closed

Well thirty years goin' down by degrees
Thirty years of thank you and please
'Til all you get is the smoker's cough and the alcohol disease
Little children sing this song
Little children sing this song

(thanks for the song, Eric)
