Out on early errands to the post office, ended up at a different than my usual coffee shop, where they are playing for my day's beginning a long string of songs from my high school, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Coasters and the like, sounds rather good to me this morning.
If the papers we signed yesterday are approved, and they should be, it will be a proverbial monkey off the back, 5 more years of breathing space before we have to sell the house. H finally came around to see that buying a condo should NOT be our next move but rather making the final move into some sort of senior community. So that's what we'll be looking for down the road. Unless, of course, I convince her to live on the road ha ha.
A very good work day yesterday and I hope for another today. Need to pick up recall petitions in the next few days. I think Sundays will be my gather signatures day. The city council just voted to change 39th Ave, a busy street full of businesses, to Chavez Ave, which is yet another well-meaning but wasteful and abundantly stupid STUPID idea. I swear to the gods, well meaning progressives are as dangerous as whacko right wingers, and we have too many of both. A TV poll has 87% AGAINST this name change, the common sense of common people. Sure, Chavez deserves something but why make small busiensses foot the bill? Even if you must use 39th, why not ADD the name rather than change it, so the mailing address can be the same, add a sign that says "The C Chavez Corridor" or something. We are building a new bridge, why not name it after him, even more impressive than a street? But no no no, these goddamn blind well-meaning folks need to do something substantial and now and so they cave to a small group while 87% thinks they're misguided. Well, if it adds votes to the recall effort, all the better. But there were so many many many ways to pay tribute without making small businesses change all their stationery and billings and such, jesus. Let's flock to 39th with our petitions! ha ha.
