Music for a desert island

You see the question posed now and again, if you could take only x of y to a desert island ... 5 CDs, poses one blog. My choices are easy.

  • Ramblin' Jack Elliott Sings the Songs of Woody Guthrie
  • The Best of Little Walter
  • The Best of Gerry Mulligan and Chet Baker
  • The Best of Chris Connor
  • The last disc, i.e. the ending, of the Weill/Brecht opera, The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny. (Photo by Nurse Fusion.)

And as the buzzards circle overhead, I'd find the strength to sing, You can dig a hole for him, you can put a white shirt on him, you can sing his praises -- cannot help a dead man.

(The most recent thing here is over 40 years old. That tells you something. However, if I could take six, the next one just might be the Beatles Sgt. Pepper.)
