Working with agents

I've had a long career and thus have worked with a lot of agents. Often, getting notes from an agent, my response is, WHAT!??, since the notes by my lights are not about the project at hand but something else -- the agent doesn't "get it." But my recent agent is a gem. I'm trying to come up with a screenplay concept he thinks is worth pursuing, and I'm 0 for 3 in running concepts by him. He doesn't want a "nice little movie" (what I tend to write) but something to go to the studios with.

Today, to idea #4 he says, "The start of something good." And his notes are close to brilliant, the kind of thing that makes you say to yourself, Shit, why didn't I think of that? So ... some truly helpful notes to use in rehashing my story structure. Man, I love this guy. I hope we can get something going together. I would say only two prior agents are people I really felt on the same wave length with. Here, I think, we have a third. This is good, so late in a somewhat crazy career.

Did a lot of uploading, using the fast connection here (to the office very early this morning.) For a long time, 2 of us shared this office, perfect, we never saw each other. But I see now FIVE are going to be here -- and the end of my office hours overlap with my new office mate Craig Lesley's hours. But we are friends, it will be nice to see him.
