"I asked why and they said it doesn't fit within university's mission statement," said WWU graduate and calendar creator Jason La Baw said, noting that the decision came during the national banned book week. "My response to that was, 'How does selling hot dogs fit within the university mission statement?' " La Baw said 300 people have joined an online Facebook group in support of the calendar, and he will circulate a petition to persuade Schuster to reconsider. Kendra Lee Timm, a 20-year-old psychology and child development double major with a music minor, said she saw the calendar as empowering, not demeaning.
