- Diane Sawyer
- Don Lemon
- Rick Sanchez
The last two are from CNN.
Why do I dislike these folks so much? Their phony friendliness. They are like the people who meet me and immediately start calling me Charlie without asking if I like being called Charlie. (It depends who does the calling. My late close friend Ger called me Charlie.) I see them and I immediately change the station. In fact, I use to regularly watch ABC nightly news until Sawyer took over. Now I watch NBC.
Over half of any local broadcasters anywhere also drive me nuts. Here it's a matter of lack of craft. When I good one passes through -- Aaron Brown in Seattle, Rob Marciano the weather guy in Portland, both of whom went to CNN -- they don't stay long. Then CNN like idiots fired Brown, one of the few old school newscasters left.
This new chummy style, news as entertainment, is what really upsets me, and these folks are very good at it. Cronkite speaking this way is like Jim Brown doing a dance in the end zone after a TD.
Am I showing my age? Damn right! Change is not necessarily progress.
