In my wallet is an annual transportation pass for this city in which public transportation is its saving grace. I can go anywhere for as long as I like. I get this at a bargain as an "Honored Citizen," which is what the politicians call old farts.
I like taking the bus because I like watching folks and stealing interesting things from them for my work. I can steal lines, appearances, body languages. It's a terrific resource for the creative storyteller.
This will be the summer of our downsizing. I'm even convincing H to consider this, so earlier today she went through a decades-old box she has of mismatched socks. Why on earth...? Well, people are different ha ha. As for me, I plan to get rid of 75-90% of what I own. Seriously. I'm sending literary stuff to my archive librarian, giving stuff away, throwing stuff out. I want to end the summer with a barebones office and no more than would fit into the back seat of a car. Seriously. Yes, it will be a challenge. But it's time.
I do have the itch, again, to live in a van. This netbook is fantastic, it can do everything I need including editing video! I could live on the road with it. However, I am not prepared to get divorced, which presently is what it would take to do this. But she changed her mind about saving mismatched socks, maybe she'll change her mind about leaving Portland. It's not the van, it's leaving Portland. She loves it. I put up with it. She really loves it. I really put up with it -- in fact, the university remains the only institution left in this city that I feel comfortable in. All the rest has passed me by.
It was fun starting the new video. I really do love editing. I love the possibilities, the creative control and power. I still need to figure out a new batch of video projects that take less energy than my past ones. Because I no longer have that kind of energy. I do want to work with actors ... maybe just fewer of them? I don't know. I almost wish I could come up with a series character for 10 min. stories and adventures. You know, thinking on the fly here, the "Hank and Emil Have Coffee" idea, that rather flopped as a website because I never add to it, might be an interesting approach to a video series. Always begins over coffee, then one or the other tells of an adventure, about 10 to 15 mins each. Hmm. Let me think on that.
