Sketch and I decided to check out city life tonight. Hadn't for a while. So we got in the car, rolled down the windows, turned on the Mariners game, and headed out. We cruised through downtown Portland and through NW Portland, my old neighborhood ("like Greenwich Village used to be," two NYers told me in the 1980s, just before gentrification).
Man, I bet we passed over 1000 outdoor diners! Outdoor tables were everywhere, especially along 23rd and 25th in northwest. Filled with twenty-somethings mostly. Grandkids! Oh how the city has changed. Oh how the culture has changed. Thank the gods I'm not younger than I am.
Seattle is still glowing in the light of Hernandez's perfect game.
