The Palin Phenomenon

Now that the soon-to-be ex-governor of Alaska has admitted to a "higher calling" to save the country from liberals, I have this take on the Sarah Palin phenomenon: it's class warfare. It's class warfare between the haves and have-nots, and what one has or has not is an education.

In one respect, this speaks again to the incredible failure of our educational system to create a populace with the rudiments of understanding of the real universe, the real world, the real planet. You don't have to be liberal (or any other political persuasion) to have this understanding. William Buckley, Jr., had it, and George Will has it today, to name two conservatives. But today conservatism is associated with the most glaring, abysmal ignorance, all in the name (wrongly used) of Christianity.

Class warfare. Fortunately, I think there are enough educated, or at least semi-educated, people in the country to outnumber these frustrated ill-advised folks at the polling booth. I doubt if Palin even can get the nomination for prez. There aren't that many dumb folks in the country. Are there?

But what the hell went wrong? Every kid is born full of curiosity, a future scientist of America, a future poet of America. How do we stifle this and create such mindless followers of unproven doctrine?

Well, as my dad used to say, and frequently, "Some people's children." How can we help the children when the parents are the problem?
