Michael Jackson & Dusty Rhodes

MJ was never even on the back distant burner of my mind as a performer of interest to me. I dug a few of his dance moves, but never liked his singing. I was never a fan of his style of pop music. Motown, schmotown. A big nothing in my life. So all this hoopla is, well, "pop culture" to me.

I mourned more a few weeks back when Dusty Rhodes, the great pinch hitter for the NY Giants, left us. To me, Rhodes stepping to the plate was a hell of a lot more exciting than Jackson stepping on stage. "There is no accounting for taste." And apples and oranges etc etc etc.

Of course, I can't deny that all this reaction to MJ is impressive, at least in a quantitative way. A hell of a lot of folks will miss him. They deserve their day, their memorial. We all do, to whatever degree is appropriate. RIP, for all of us.
