It's downright shocking how poorly The Oregonian, the state's largest newspaper, has adapted to Kindle and other electronic devices. The Kindle version of the O is really bad. Some of it is design and most of it is content. For reasons unknown, the O leaves its best stories out of the K version, stories on the local arts scene. It's mostly hard news with a few opinions thrown in. The design is boring and inflexible. It's dull and as poor a K version of a periodical as I've seen.
In contrast, the L.A. Times is the best Kindle newspaper I've seen -- and for my needs, is filled with features about Hollywood and film, and UCLA.
But I wish the O had a decent Kindle version. It's doesn't strike me as technically difficult to do, so this must be a management decision. Shame on them.

Hi, Charles. I will look into the technical glitches and whether any arts stories are missing. We certainly would not intentionally provide an inferior product on Kindle. We like our Kindle subscribers! Therese Bottomly, managing editor, The Oregonian
