Music from the True Vine

Out on errands, was listening to our local bluegrass Saturday show, KBOO's Music from the True Vine. Bluegrass, like Dixieland, plays "the blues" in a way that makes you downright happy. Maybe it's existential music.

At any rate, they were broadcasting live from the River City Bluegrass Festival in town, if I have the name right, and a band of young musicians from Seattle, Northern Departure, stopped by to play. Man, are they hot!



Years ago an all-female bluegrass band based in California, Sidesaddle, used to play regularly in Portland because one of the band members was from here. I was a big fan.
