Since I'm adjunct faculty at the university without tenure, and have been for 14 years now (!), I have no "official" job security and thus get nervous about this time each year, wondering if my services will be scheduled for the school year ahead. Just heard that, yes, I'm still in the loop. And a nice comment came with it: "We count on your courses [in the MFA program] -- especially for our fiction writers." I love it that they keep sending MFA fiction writers to my screenwriting class. Why? Because I teach beginning-middle-end storytelling as much as anything else, which is easily applied to fiction.
So apparently I can rest easy, I have a job next school year. I continue to enjoy teaching even more every year, as my writing energy diminishes. And, who knows, I may teach the damn course "right" yet!
