For years now I've been looking for a book to supplement my own PRACTICAL SCREENWRITING in class. The book would focus on STORYTELLING principles. And it wouldn't read like a physics textbook, the way McKee's book does.
Brian McDonald's INVISIBLE INK: A PRACTICAL GUIDE TO BUILDING STORIES THAT RESONATE fits the bill. McDonald takes the "once upon a time...and then one day" approach to structure that I first learned from David Mamet and find so eloquent. He fattens the pot a bit. But here is a book full of the simple wisdom of the ages. Highly recommended -- and I'll start using it in class next fall.
