UCLA, 1964
The last reader at First Wednesday gave a monologue about certain persons and events at UCLA in 1964. I was at UCLA then, a junior two years away from coming to Oregon for graduate school (initially as a PhD candidate in Amer Lit, planning to write my dissertation on Melville's PIERRE, OR THE AMBIGUITIES), but was unaware of the subject matter of focus last night. At this time I was hanging out at The Ash Grove a lot, in essence a groupie of Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Brownie McGhee and Sonny Terry, Lightnin' Hopkins, Barbara Dane, and some students who later became Canned Heat.
