The posthumous plays
In recent days, I've had a flood of ideas for this series. Three Loves comes next but another four or five ideas are stirring. This has become the most exciting project at hand now. I like the freedom of writing these completely out of the marketplace. I have a vehicle for making them accessible and yet don't have to jump through the usual political and social hoops that unfortunately are part of the arts in this country. I can see these plays in my head, and that's enough. I know how to make them accessible after I pass on, and that's enough. I also suspect one of these story ideas may become the nucleus for the music drama I've been looking for, this in a more public package. I'll still be working on the other things -- screenplay, novel -- but it's the series of posthumous plays that excites me most recently. One down, and I'm close to starting the next one. (And, of course, it's nice to be writing in this form again after being "retired" for so long. There's an intimacy in theater you don't get in other forms of storytelling.)
