Winding down

Only 3 weeks left in the term and one of those is a half week. A long break follows, during which my goal is to finish a draft of the short novel. Winter term I hope to carry it around on my Kindle, polishing the vignettes one by one, no doubt eliminating some, maybe adding others. The complexity of the narrative, which must be presented as if it's not complex at all, that's the magic, which works or doesn't, has justified a slower than usual process of creation for me. Age also has something to do with it. I don't have the energy to match earlier obsessive habits.

I have a couple of screenwriting students this term, one in particular, who may well leave the class writing at a professional level, they learn that quickly and are that talented. Quite exciting to see. On the other hand, I have a student who still hasn't reached first base, even though he is trying like hell. We will sit down and have a talk.

Sketch is my salvation. He keeps me laughing when not much else does these days. We're both old farts but I hope I pass before he does, so I don't have to miss him and so H can have companionship. But all that is a roll of the dice. Yes, Einstein, the gods do play dice!
