Exhilaration and exhaustion

Last night's class was unusually exhilarating. I left class exhausted but high. Really nice to have a class like that, leaving with a strong sense of accomplishing something, giving students information they can use.

Next week I show Dreams on Spec, an excellent documentary that follows three screenwriters trying to make it in L.A. Realism 101, I love it. Then the holiday, then back for the final two classes, so it's just about a done deal except for the most consequential activity, grading their projects and turning in grades. One or two writers, maybe even three, have already earned A's -- I'll see what their drafts turned in Tuesday look like.

I expect to start writing the final vignettes over the next few days. Well, beginning this process, I don't expect to finish a draft until the holiday break.

Man, the backlash against the protesters is huge. Yet when interviewed, every protester thinks they are "building the movement." They definitely need a reality check. What an unfortunate state of affairs. We could be recalling the government in a symbolic act first, and with an actual voting bloc later, with a movement unprecedented in history! Instead it's same o same o, with he same results. Remember King's great speech was one thing -- but it was followed by his assassination. Understand your enemy.
