My mother lost her brother on Dec. 7, 1941, at Pearl Harbor. She was close to him and named my brother after him. So this was an important day when I was a child. I still remember my fear of blackouts in the early days of the war. For years before 9/11 I divided Americans into two groups: those born before the attack and those born after. They had very different memories and historical experience.
Everything fades over time. So today. Eventually no one alive will have experienced it.
