Round Bend Press: The Horse's Mouth:
Terry Simons on the perils of revisiting old favorites.
I recently had a similar experience, disappointed in Norman Mailer's Armies of the Night, which once struck me as a work of genius and now as self-indulgent posturing. I couldn't even get very far into it, the tone was so boring. Interesting.
On the flip side are old favorites that do hold up. For me, things like The Quiet American, Genesis Angels, Mrs. Bridge.
