Wedding

I don't go to many weddings. We go to one this evening, however, a young couple I've known for a while, writers, creative, talented, and I wish them well. They've lived together a while, which is a step in the right direction. But deep down, I embrace Bertrand Russell's thesis that marriage exists to raise children, period, and there's no other reason to marry. Russell would not issue a license unless the woman was pregnant! He wrote this at the turn of the 19-20th century, in Marriage and Morals, and they wouldn't let him off the boat here as a result to deliver a lecture series. By the gods, we treat our best minds like shit.

At any rate, I am writing here at Starbucks, a change of scenery, after a bit of reading this morning. Plans for a long banjo session. Plans to do yard work in the heat before showering for the wedding.

We have no summer vacation planned but a few little trips, and the first is scheduled next week. Look forward to it! I like trips by car with little driving involved, only a few hundred miles a day. On the way back, we'll come through Eugene and have a visit with my brother and his wife.

Downloaded 3 political plays by Zinn. But they go to the rear of the line, I think. So much to read!
