Sophocles yet again

Steven Terry alerted me to this Wikipedia item on Sophocles, which includes:

Possible Company Buyout

There has been speculation that on March 21, 2008, Sophocles was purchased by a third party.[2] By late April 2008, its website was shutdown, and Tim Sheehan, the software's creator, could not be reached for comment.

Full article.

The reference, however, is to a forum full of speculation. I don't think this establishes a sale as definitive or tells us anything new. We don't know what the hell happened. My theory, Tim is dead, is no less valid than any other version at this point. It gives Tim the benefit of the doubt. That you have to be dead to get it tells you how many users (former) are pissed.

I'm still using Sophocles and will continue to use it until I can't load it any more.

I believe someone on Wiki is misreading a comment (check the attribution link) posted that the last known Sophocles license purchase was on March 21, not that the code/program itself was sold to a 3rd-party.

That doesn't mean Sophocles hasn't been sold to another developer (who has subsequently buried it), only that this particular source is in error.

I am writing Mr. Sheehan about pulling the plug on Sophocles. My computer crashed and I have scripts saved on disk but can't reload them without an unlock code. If he has sold Sophocles to a third party then he has broken his oral contract with me. He assured me in an email that Sophocles would always be around and that I could download and get an unlock code any time I needed a fresh download. Now, he is no where to be found. I do not take getting screwed lightly. He could send a disk, which I told him that I wanted in order to have complete confidence. But decided to spend my 120 bucks on his reassuring word.

I have sent a letter to him (not sure if this is his address any more) stating that I will file a suit against him for theft by deception if I do not receive a cd with a permanent unlock code. I don't give a damn what agreement he entered into with a third party. He entered into an agreement with me first. He could at the very least had a "former customer" clause in that contract that would have protected his customers.

The address I wrote to was:

How long ago did you hear from him last? I think he may be dead.

Good luck.

Every bit of evidence I have found so far is that he sold out...Hopefully I will find out soon. And if he is dead, then I will be the first to apologize to his family... I would think that someone in his family would have posted an obituary on his website before it closed. I could be wrong.

Alive or dead how do I get a copy of the software? After a number of computers and crashes I am stuck, I only ever used the dowload version so now what? Help would be appreciated.
John.
