Some writer of note, the name escapes me, said that he didn't like writing but liked having written.
I'm the opposite. Maybe it's the difference between being famous and being marginal. At any rate, I love being obsessed about my work, living completely within its parameters. What I don't like is finishing, being proud of what I've done, and then looking around to discover that nobody actually gives a shit. Well, it's not always this way -- but it's more like this the older I get. The only response is to go back into the cave of work on another project. If you keep busy, you don't have to look around very often; you create a solipsistic reality.
