... I wonder if the viewing habits of people will change. If there were great sitcom, dramatic, and other products available on the Internet, this might happen -- but I'm not sure the product is there yet. It seems to me the entire TV/film industry is so loaded with fat, in terms of budgets and expenses, that it's like a fat greedy patriarch ready for a fall, and a lot of young hungry Internet artists might give them a real challenge if the young artists had their act together, which I'm not sure they do (or if the household technology is quite there yet).
I don't think the quality of the product would suffer if young writers took over -- how many good TV shows are there really? Personally, I don't like "reality shows" but un-scripted alternatives may come on the networks in even greater numbers during the strike. I'd love to see the Internet overthrow the entire entertainment paradigm and give us far more diversity but I'm not sure the timing is quite right yet.
All the same, this could be a very interesting strike because, in fact, the very playing field is in flux. This also makes the strike risky for establishment writers. They might provide the opportunity for radical new entertainment paradigms to emerge which, in effect, would make them less necessary, and therefore give them less bargaining power.
I have no idea how anything will turn out. But I know this all will be fascinating and informative to watch.

I sympathize with the writers, but less TV is always, without exception, a good thing. Too many spend too much time watching TV. Please keep up the blogging. it is a small spot of sanity in my work day!
