Selling a million dollar screenplay

From my electronic book/course Screenwright, the craft of screenwriting:

Between 1984 and 1993, there were 1333 millionaires from the California lottery.

In the same period, 393 screenwriters sold a screenplay for $1 million or more.

So are you playing the lottery or writing a screenplay?

by that stat you're saying I should give up writing and play the numbers?

I'm not telling anyone to do anything. I'm just pointing out that if your goal is to make a million dollars, you have better odds doing something else. After all, I'm still writing screenplays and I don't play the lottery -- but my goal is not to be a millionaire.

Just having a little fun. Most folks don't realize that you're more likely to make a million on the lottery than by selling a screenplay.
