A Single-Payer System, Like Medicare, is the Cure for America's Ailing Healthcare | Common Dreams:
"I start my approach to healthcare from two very basic premises. First, healthcare must be recognized as a right, not a privilege. Every man, woman and child in our country should be able to access the healthcare they need regardless of their income. Second, we must create a national healthcare system that provides quality healthcare for all in the most cost-effective way possible."

Hear, hear. My favorite trip to the doctor was when my son was born. Half of his scrotum was inflamed, so we took him in. For twenty minutes, he got an ultrasonic massage that he was too young to enjoy, let alone remember, then they sent the images off to some lab for development and analysis. Two weeks later, we were told not to worry, that it was probably an infection, and that they would need $2K for their trouble. I suspect that some time in the past, a doctor would have skipped straight to the same prognosis without the costly equipment, and the outcome of my son would be all the same.
Your blog has become one of the few websites that I check daily, by the way. It has a fair measure of despair, but over the past few years, I've found that's what's needed to keep my priorities balanced.
And I'm also looking forward to gloating when Oregon pummels UCLA.
