Last week of classes

End of the term. Nothing I have left to do, including turning in grades, is as hard as the past weekend, evaluating all the projects one last time.

Here are some random things on my mind.

  • H's birthday yesterday, had a great dinner at Marco's in Multnomah Village, really a nice little restaurant. There are three good restaurants in two blocks in the village, which is close to us, which is where I became a writer in 1968.
  • Energy back a little. Not sure what was going on.
  • Really looking forward to a summer of house chores, actually -- and practicing the harmonica! I plan to learn a lot of standards on the chromatic.
  • I have no idea if I'll do any more writing or not, outside-in or inside-out. Not on my mind right now.
  • Also have a ton of reading to do. I've never read much of David Hume since my philosophy minor days at UCLA but references to him here and there suggest I should look more into his work.
  • Wet and gray, still. Lawn growing. We'll miss the transit of Venus today because of overcast skies.
  • Mariners playing some good ball lately, though once again League almost lost it for them yesterday. They need to trade him.
  • Scrapple at hand is best I've made since I found a pig's head on my porch in grad school.. 2 secrets: right ingredients, i.e. pork livers and hearts; and grinding your own meat. First for taste, second for texture. I rather have my own recipe now and like it. I make the stock with added carrots, turnips, leaks, besides the meat. I made rice with leftover stock and it was yummy.
  • Going to try a new recipe for pate, maybe as soon as tomorrow.
  • H off to Vietnam on the 15th, I'll have 3 weeks to get my office in order. Really going to minimize it!
  • Where the hell is the sun? Warm days? The rest of the country in a heat spell, we get wet damp constant Portland weather.
