I Wish I Had A Queen (poem)
I wish I had a Queen in my life
so that I could join the throngs
of loyal subjects, waving a flag,
patriotism primed, like a party
on New Year's Eve, waiting
for the Queen's carriage,
for the Queen's boat to pass,
as exciting as seeing Elvis,
the Beatles, hell V-Day,
a celebration of order,
a celebration of clarity,
I wish I had a Queen
in my life.
Instead I turn on the TV
and a Democratic President
tells me what shits the Republicans
are, a Repubican challenger what
shits the Democrats are, no one
can give anybody a break, it's
all contentious ideology, my way
or the highway, who the hell
can wave a flag to that?
I wish I had a Queen in my life.
