"The rest of us must be alive to the suffering. We must accept that people who wore the uniform and often put themselves in harm's way live with a burden that most of us needn't carry. And when that pain plays out in unhappy or destructive ways, we must do better than to turn our heads -- or toss a sufferer into jail. "
Very high on my list of American policy failures is our negligent disregard of veterans' serious health problems, physical and mental. We love to send them out to danger, then ignore them when they return.
